War Films of India

Haqeeqat

India's first and unarguably finest war film to date, Haqeeqat (The Reality) became a yardstick for subsequent Hindi films based on war. This 1964 movie is a heroic portrayal of India's 1962 war with China over the disputed Ladakh border. Rather graphic, director Chetan Anand set out to glorify the soldiers who fought in this remote outpost.

Today it may end up appearing as much an anti war movie as the political set piece it was meant to be. The scenery is stunning even if the camera work is shaky. Actors include Dharmendra, Priya Rajvanshi, Vijay Anand, Balraj Sahni and Sanjay Khan. Look for the Jewish/Hindi actor Levy Aaron in this stark war film. Note: I will be capping this movie as soon as I can get hold of it.

Hindustan Ki Kasam

Chetan Anand's 1973 Hit Movie "Hindustan Ki Kasam" was shot in 1972-73, almost immediately after the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The movie has an all-star cast which includes: Raaj Kumar(Mig-21 pilot), Priya Rajvanshi, Vijay Anand(Gnat Pilot), Balraj Sahni(Air Chief), Amrish Puri and Amjad Khan(Pak Pilot & radar operator).

This is a movie which should definitely be seen. It has plenty of dogfights and bombing featuring Sukhoi-7's, Mig-21's, Sabres, Gnats etc. The Mig-21 stunts in the movie were done by Flt Lt Samar Shah and Flt Lt Manbir Singh. Below are a few Vidcaps from the VCD. Enjoy!!

Sangam

Directed and acted by Raj Kapoor, Sangam was shot in 1964 and features IAF aircraft like Canberra's and Dakota's. The setting is the 1962 Indo-China conflict. It also features Rajendra Kumar and the beautiful Vyjayanthimala.

Right from the start the movie is entertaining and there is never a dull or boring moment. Plenty of memorable songs and the acting is superb. The costumes are beautiful and perfectly matched to the stars. This is one movie I will be watching again.

The movie is very entertaining with plenty of songs and dance. Amitabh Bachchan, as always, plays his role superbly. This is one of the all time classics.
